E. V. Calder
Discovered hitchhiking near Cesar Chavez, behind Mr. Natural and suspiciously close to a dimensional rift, E. V. Calder writes with one foot in the dreamworld and one fist clenched around what's left of the real.
A novelist by compulsion, Calder’s work inhabits the fractured spaces between recovery and ruin, tenderness and teeth. Their writing is a field guide for the quietly feral—for those who’ve loved wrong, lost hard, and come back with a story anyway.
Their debut novel, Rerouted, follows a cast of beautifully broken wanderers trying to map their way back to something like home. Like much of Calder’s work, it doesn’t promise redemption, but it offers connection—sharp-edged and sincere.
Never one to chase trends or soften the blow, Calder believes literature should leave a bruise—or at least a fingerprint. Their prose tracks characters who are flawed, haunted, and somehow holy in spite of themselves.
When not writing, Calder can be found walking unfamiliar streets, eavesdropping on birds, or staring too long at cracks in the sidewalk. They live and work in Austin, Texas, though their mind tends to wander.
Rerouted will be, or was, released on June 1st 2015, or 2025, or 2035, depending on your timeline.
